There's something magical about makeup that makes youngsters swoon. Perhaps it's their desire to mimic mommy, but lads and lasses alike often love applying blush and eye shadow to their baby faces.
My daughter recently broke out in a rash and I needed to apply special lotion to her face and body. Wary, she shied away saying, "No, no mommy!" Thinking on my feet I said, "It's your makeup." In an instant sat up straight and let me lather the cream onto her peachy cheeks. Smiles all around, I know now that makeup is a powerful bribing tool — even for 20-month-old tots.

I also know the power of makeup. My 2 1/2 year old loves "makeups" and will play with a brush or pencil for hours. The only problem is she now knows how to open screw top containers, so I have to be careful I don't give her anything with any color in it. She very carefully mimes dipping her finger into her palm and rubs it onto her eyes & lips. She also will tell me "close eyes" and does it to me as well.
I don't want her to grow up thinking that makeup is necessary to be beautiful, because I certainly don't feel that way, but it is really interesting how early she picked up on the habit (not mine, but her day care provider's- I rarely wear makeup).
1I love using the make up bribe with my nieces helps me get them out the house way faster!!!
2Brilliant!
