Should Child Rapists Be Executed?

As a mom, it sickens me to think anyone would hurt a child, but people do. A debate was waged, with even the presidential candidates weighing in as of late, on whether child rapists should be given the death penalty despite the Supreme Court's recent decision that it is unconstitutional. At the center of the controversy was Louisiana man, Patrick Kennedy who was sentenced to death for raping his 8-year-old stepdaughter in 1998; A crime so brutal that the girl had to undergo surgery.

What is your opinion?

I am against the death penalty in all cases anyhow. Although these are brutal and unforgivable crimes, the threat of execution does not deter sick people from doing sick things. And studies show that executions do not make the families of victims feel any better either.

I think they should sodomize him and torture him till he begs to die then kill him. but thats just my opinion. Child rapist are sick, twisted horrible people who don't deserve life.

    Yes. They should.
I have been though this as a child, and I wish everyday I could have killed the person that hurt me.

i think the death penalty is a fitting punishment. perhaps perpetrators would think twice if they knew it would cost them their life. however, i'm sure some of the people (men) who need to push through this law are guilty themselves of raping little girls (daughters, etc.) so the chances of this happening seem slim to me.

I am against the death penalty in most cases. This is one where I would have no problem supporting it. If there is clear evidence that a person has committed such a crime, the should meet an appropriate punishment. I realize that it might not make the families feel any better, but thats hardly the point. And (this is harsh, I realize) but I don't think people that do this should be allowed to exist in our society or even in our species/the human race. If this is a sickness, then it needs to be eradicated.

I'm totally against the death penalty, even in extreme cases. An eye for an eye doesn't sit well with me. Just think of it this way, most child molestors/rapists usually get killed/hurt in prison anyways. They get treated like the children they hurt. To me, that is more of a punishment than death. Death is easy, the hardest thing in this world ... is to live in it.

I absolutely think they should be executed. I'm not willing to look a child in the eye and say sorry you were raped by someone we KNEW was capable of this, but sparing his life seemed like the right thing to do.

I can respect opposing the death penalty. But, discarding the death penalty in favor of a sentence of life in prison being unofficially tortured by other criminals is wrong.

When I became a mother a short 8 months ago, my world changed, and I can not imagine the pain this family is going through, However, I am absolutely against the death penalty. It sickens me beyond belief that someone can do this but I do not agree with killing period.

Death penality is too extreme and costly (appeals). I think life in prison is a better idea.

Absolutely executed!! Jail is no longer a punishment anymore...free board, free food, free TV, etc. And who pays for these things? WE DO, with our taxes. Why should our government pay for some despicable monster to sit in a cell for the rest of his life, whom is not deemed acceptable for our society while the rest of us scratch our heads about our failing economy?!

But GOD f*cking help me if anyone lays a hand on my son in that matter...I was brutally abused in this fashion as a 4 year old, and the memory of that happening has nearly wrecked my life on more than one occasion.

To wish that kind of pain on someone else...especially an innocent child that never asked nor deserved it...makes me wish the death penalty on someone for so much CONSIDERING doing something like that.

It depends on the degree of violation of the particular case. If the violation is heinous enough, yes, I would support the death penalty. Some criminals forfeit the right to exist among us and our children.

I think child rapists and molesters should be castrated. Or they should be put in prison in general population and forced to wear a sign that states exactly what they did.

I think the death penatly is fitting when the victim is a child... but only after a prison sentence... equal to the childs age... so 8 years for this man... to live w/and suffer what he will in prison... and then be executed... in a manner chosen by the family of the victim.

If someone ever hurt one of my children like this I would want the SOB killed. I think the families would probably feel better if THEY were the ones executing the person. I know I probably would. Just the thought of someone doing this to a child makes me shake with anger and disgust.

These families have to live with the thought every day knowing that their child was probably terrified and calling for their mother or father to help them. I don't think I could live with that horrible feeling every day. But if I did, I wouldn't be able to let it go until the person suffered for the pain they caused to my child. And for that person to allowed even one day living a 1/2 normal life and being able to laugh and smile (even if it's in jail) does not seem fitting to me.

It sounds like some of you are talking about revenge, not justice. I agree that the death penelty is appropriate for a case like this, but not because it will make the families feel better. Families and victims will need to work through their grief and anger and I am not sure the death penelty would really help with that. It would help intill a faith that our governemnt will truly protect other possible victims though.

i too like the execution but that is the easy way out, i would stone the mother f*cker chop his penis off under no sedation after the torture then kill the son of a b*tch, by stoning his ass he will not get the easy way out by lethal injection he will suffer the way the child suffered, can you imagine the scarring and pain that child will endure the rest of her life, having trust issues hating men feeling insecure about ones self her body, if that was my child that bastard better hope the police caught him before i did because there is no protection like a mothers, i have two little girls and the thought that some sick f*cker can do this to an innocent child boggles my mind, to take my baby's innocence you got me f*cked and to know that sick bastard is sitting in jail and laughing smiling with his cell mates while my daughter is in therapy hating the world, you got me f*cked, sorry for the rant but thats the way i feel there are two types of people i hate is child molesters/rapists, cheaters/liars/thieves, and that sick f*ck falls in all those categories and its hard for me to hate

They should be killed because if they are ever released, Which ALWAYS seems to happen, they will do it again to some other child. People who hurt children will ALWAYS hurt children. It's not something you became rehabilitated from. Child predators will always always strike again.

Yes revenge. If you hurt my child I WOULD want revenge.

As for justice, well take a look at the world. Most of these people are habitual offenders. They do this over and over again. And time and time again they are let back out of jail to hurt other children. This baffles me. There are so many cases where someone finally goes to jail because they kill a child and get caught and you read how this person was in jail SEVERAL times for molesting/raping other children. Ask the parents of those children if they believe jail time = justice.

I say kill them! One of my friends was raped by a repeat child molestor when we were 10 - if they had given the guy what he deserved the first time, he would have never made it to my friend! He ruined her life - she has been in therapy so long, but still can't get past it and will never have a normal life. It infuriates me! If anyone ever touches my child, I will kill them myself rather than wait for the useless justice system to get it together!

I CAN'T PEOPLE ACTUALLY VOTED THAT PRISON WILL BE A GOOD ENOUGH PUNISHMENT. I DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN OF MY OWN YET BUT I HAVE SMALL NEPHEWS AND NEICES. AND THE THOUGHT OF THIS HAS RAN THREW MY MIND MILLIONS OF TIME. I LIVE IN MIAMI, RAPE IS A VERY LARGE VIOLENCE HERE. IT HAPPENS A LOT AND A LOT TO SMALL CHILDREN. I BELIEVE FOR EVERY 10 HOUSES THEIR IS ABOUT 2 CHILD MOLESTORS. I LIVE INFRONT OF ONE WHILE I GREW UP, HE WAS PROSECUTED AFTER HE MOLESTED MY COUSINS STEPSISTER. IF I WERE PART OF THE LEGAL SYSTEM OR HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. THE PUNISHMENT FOR THE PUNISHER WOULD BE THE SAME THAT WAS DONE TO THIER VICTIM. RATHER ITS CUTTING THEIR FINGERS OFF OR RAPING THEM ETC... ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO CHILDREN, THAT ARE SMALL AND DEFENSIVE. AND CANNOT PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM THE SICKOS THAT LIVE IN THIS WORLD. PRISON WOULD NEVER BE AN OPTION IN MY EYES. EXCECUTION IS THE OPTION.

i am very passionate about this issue there is no remorse or second chances when you hurt a child, one that cannot defend itself, the way i feel is if you wont do this to a grown ass person that is bigger, tougher and stronger than you what gives you the right to do it to a child, that is smaller and weaker than you

For me, it's not about revenge. It's about removing a hostile element from society. It's okay for society to self-protect itself.

Naturally, our body does this. Our immune system eradicates (destroys) any harmful or hostile elements in our bodies -- for self-preservation. I think it's perfectly moral.

Life in prison?? As a tax payer, I don't want to pay for that! I prefer my money to go to more worthy causes like improving public schools, healthcare, etc.

I don't support anyone's life being taken away no matter what the crime. I leave that up to God. People think that these people who commit these horrendous crimes are only insane or something, but they may have been abused when they were young or even older the same way they abused others. Don't just think because it is wrong they should be killed. They aren't in their right mind.

Wow, so many death penalty supporters. I don't support it under any circumstances.

I think that living in a small cell and gradually understanding the crime you've commit is worse than death. Death is an easy option.

    Wow. I'm surprised, too.

I don't think you ever have the right to decide if someone lives or dies, unless there is a situation with extraordinary measures involving life support.

Their act is horrific, no doubt about it. But I don't think we have the power to kill them.

The sugar websites usually have such logical, rational people on them. I'm really surprised, and sad about this.
