Family Ties: Subtle Differences Between Siblings

There are many differences between men and women, but it all starts when they are boys and girls. Lately, I've noticed how differently my daughter and son accomplish the simplest of tasks. And, I attribute it more to their sex than age.
Open a door
Daughter — Drags a sturdy step stool to the door, climbs up and unlocks it.
Son — Stacks up his cardboard block tower, tests it out with one foot and then daringly climbs it to reach the lock.
Shut a door
Daughter — Shuts the door and checks to make sure it is closed.
Son — Takes a running start down the hall and swings it shut with a bang.
Take a bath
Daughter — Relaxes, plays with bath toys and suds herself up.
Son — Stands in the water while peeing and laughing hysterically, floods floor.
Get a snack
Daughter — Gets a paper towel and puts the snack on it.
Son — Risks bodily harm as he slips a glass Pyrex of brownie crumbs off the counter, empties the remnants on the floor, grabs a spoon from the silverware drawer and eats off linoleum while smiling and saying, "Mmm."

Do you notice differences in the way your children do things?

That is so funny! I do not have children, but that is the truth. Girls are just more dainty about things.

I don't have two kids but I have noticed the differences between my daughter and her cousins, my daughter is such a girly girl compared to her cousins. She likes to check herself out in the mirror and dress up, its hilarious.

lol, oh yeah. my middle daughter is very aware of the feelings of others and thinks about how she can help. youngest daughter wonders what the world can do for her next. middle child learned to tie her shoes at 5. at 7 youngest child wonders why she would need to learn since mommy does such a nice job Smiling etc, etc, etc.

Haha, the boy taking a bath thing is funny. My lil bro would flail his arms around and make a big mess with the water when he was little in the bath.

Yes and it's not gender related. My two boys fit a lot of those comparisons and are different as night and day.

Well, I only have boys (3 of them!) but there are similar differences even between them. Still, they do tend to lean towards these boy descriptions.

My daughter (3) & my son (1) are just like this. Sienna is very sweet, polite, and generally pretty neat for a 3 y.o. Cooper is a tornado is the making - he tries to climb the bookcase, pulls everything off shelves, constantly going into drawers and pulling out all the clothes. And PLEASE! Bath time is an entirely different kind of mess! He is just walking across the tub, kicking, splashing, plopping himself down & grabbing toys, trying to mess with the tub spout & the water handle. And all the while I am trying to get him clean. It is an exercise in patience.
