Warm weather brings pool parties, camping, sandcastles, fireflies, sparklers and family road trips. Still, chirping crickets take me back to when I was a young lass soaking up the heat and humidity of the Texas sun. As schools are closing and the temperatures rise, think back to your dog days of summer and tell us your favorite memory.

Its my first summer with my little girl!! We are so excited to do new things with her. We have already taken her to the pool and she just loves it!!
1I used to LOVE the slip n slide!!! My kids loved the sprinklers til water restrictions started when they were about 4 and 5. So, we would fill up the little blow up pool and they would splash around in there. Every once in awhile we would go to my friend's community pool.
2Family trips were always my favorite part of Summer, and they still are. We've continued that tradition that my parents started. We always take a trip in the Summer, no matter what. And I love that my children are growing up with the same appreciation for travel and for seeing new places, exploring and learning in a fun way!
3Oh gosh I love all of those! How can I pick just one?!
4I loved spending a week or so at my grandma's. I grew up in a tiny town on a farm, and my grandma lived in a (bigger) small town that had a city pool, a lake, & McDonalds! My cousin & I would go spend a week with our grandma every summer. She only lived an hour away so we got to visit often with our moms. Also my mom & my aunt always had big yard sales with our Grandma and we would get to have a lemonade & donut stand!
5walking to the pool with my friends. we felt super cool (started at 10) walking to 7-11 and then to "the club" which is the fancy name for the pool you have to join to seim in. don't remember too much about being at the pool, just the walks to and from.
6I loved just riding bikes around the neighborhood and to the local party store for candy, swinging at the local duck pond, shooting hoops in my driveway, and staying out until the sun went down at nearly 10 PM.
7Summers at our cabin on the river!
8I would have to add Jersey Shore to that list because it is not really what I consider a trip with the family. Its kind of a lifestyle for those that go every year. (For me a family trip includes getting on a plane!) Its a charming delightful area and my favorite thing to do in the summertime is head to the shore for weeks, weekends, or days at a time! I just hope our children will love it as much as we do!
9Family trips. I've always loved traveling and my parents worked so much, it was the only good opportunity for us to spend time with them without being bothered by their business too much. But we did travel a lot as kids!
10slip n slides & pools!!
11Every summer I would relocate to my grandparents house, where I would play with all my friends there (some of who were also staying with their grandparents). We would play outside all day long, or some days I would read in the shade, hide in my grandpas garden and eat tomatoes or climb the fence and eat apricots from the tree in our yard. Some days my friends and I would walk downtown to get ice cream, or go see a movie. We were never bored and had lots of freedom to go places on our own. This was back in Romania, childhood for my kids here will probably be different. Not bad, just different.
12I miss those days!
My parents were both teachers so the summer was always a special time to have them home and go on trips. We always spent a lot of time gardening and on the water.
I almost voted for reading, though. There is some distinct sensory memory about reading books in the summer heat, maybe later at night? Reading the Chronicles of Narnia one summer stands out in my mind.
aphrosette--my husband and one of his best buddies still go on about summers in (on?) LBI. Definitely defining for them.
13Summer trips and sitting by the pool or my toes in the sand!!!
