Chunk pieces are perfect for small fingers. Some youngsters are interested in puzzles, but have a hard time putting them together. Melissa & Doug offers a line of chunky puzzles ($8) specifically designed for wee ones that feature shaped blocks instead of flat cutouts to fit the molds. The raised wooden parts are easy to grab and lay on the board. After getting frustrated with the more traditional version of wooden puzzles, my 18-month-old son received one of these as a gift and has just enough patience to put it together. Available in many colorful themes from shapes to the alphabet to an animal farm and safari, there's one for every tot.

My 2-year old has the farm one, she loves it!
1We have a wild animals puzzle and three puzzles with girls with interchangeable outfits. They're so cute! And we bought her a magnetic dress up doll by Melissa and Doug, too, but I photocopied the doll and taped it to the fridge so all the pieces could stay put away.
2My 22 month old got the farm and vehicle ones for the holidays--she loves them!
3Katie loves these!
4My daughter loves these, too! I love this brand - they make great toys.
5Melissa and Doug really make quality puzzles. They are a bit pricey, but totally worth it. Many cheaper puzzles get my kids frustrated because they are too thin or don't fit together quite right.
