Are Tom and Katie Justified?

It has been rumored that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are fuming mad at one of Hollywood's trendiest baby boutiques — Petit Trésor. After Life & Style reported that the family spent $400,000 on lil Suri over the last two years, the couple's lawyer Aaron Moss wrote a letter stating:

This conduct violates our clients' rights of privacy and rights of publicity.

As a layperson, it is hard for me to imagine anyone wanting to disclose the amount I spend on my personal items. While Tom and Katie live in the public eye, I do believe a line should be drawn. Reporting your customers' spending and buying habits is one I would not cross.

Do you believe the celebrities have the right to sue the tot shop for their behavior? Pacific Coast New Online

Absolutely and guess what, I am sure they will spend that $400,000 elsewhere. Smart move on their part LOL!

Definitely a violation of their privacy and a dumb business move to get caught at it. Bye, bye $400, 000 a year.
I think a lawsuit may be going a bit too far. It seems like Tom Cruise is always suing somebody. Save the litigation for something important.

no. when 2 media wh*res go out with body guards and throw around $400k in a public store there is zero expectation of privacy. they could pay for the privacy, shop online or have an employee make their purchases. boo-hoo their crap is public. their probably just made because the church of l ron hubbard will see they have more money to waste.

I agree with anniekim. While they may have basis for legal action, they should really pick their battles. It's not like we as the general public can't figure out how much they spend on Suri just looking at her clothes, shoes, etc.

No doubt if you're Tom Cruise, you have to buy a wackload of presents for other people's kids too. J Lo's twins must represent a dent in that $400k. I'm not sure that legally they have that strong a case, but what a dumb move on the shop's part - they have a lot of other very rich customers, presumably, who will think twice about exposing themselves? It's really tacky of them, and only sensible of the Cruises to warn other shops that they don't find this acceptable, which is all they're doing, I'm sure.

I think that they have a right to privacy, just like any other person in America and that if that right to privacy is violated, then they have a right to sue. I've always thought it was weird how Petite Tresor always gave out their customers buying/spending habits.

This is too much. Good for Tom and his family. Celebs or not this is violation of our privacy. They are human beings too you know.
