An Ohio judge threw the book at a dad whose daughter has not received her GED. Brian Gegner was sentenced to six months in jail for contributing to the delinquency of a minor — his child Brittany who has a history of truancy. Despite the fact that the woman is now nearly 19 years old, a mother of an 18-month-old daughter and living with her fiancé at her mother's house, the father was charged because he had custody of her when the problems began. An Associated Press article said:
Butler County Juvenile Court administrator Rob Clevenger Jr. said Monday that the court still has jurisdiction in the case because Brittany Gegner was a juvenile when the truancy problems began and when the charge against Brian Gegner was filed in 2007.
Is justice being served?

2I think this family has a lot more at stake then Dad in Jail and Daughter without her GED maybe they need to look at the real problem here.
3i don't understand. how is it against the law to not force someone to get their GED? RIDICULOUS!
4Unless I don't know the whole story here, that sounds ridiculous.
5she should be put in jail, not the dad, if they want to play it that way. even though she was in his custody, there is only so much you can do. you can't force someone to do what they don't want to do, especially a teenager.
6I thought 19 was considered an adult?
7I am confused - this story seems ridiculous! Obviously, there is more going on here...she's 19 and has an 18 month old daughter, I think there were more problems than just not getting her GED.
8I think if they were going to hold the father responsible while she was still in school and failing, and while she was still a minor, that would have been fine. But I think the state or school board or whoever, lost their window of opportunity and should have just chalked it up to a lesson learned, filed it away to remember for future use in other cases.
9This seems absurd. There must be a lot more to the story than the article tells us.
10well, that's stupid.
11i am sooo sick of people using jail as the end all be all for every little infraction. and people wonder why are system is screwed up and no one respects the law.
12thats not right. he shouldn't be put in jail for that reason
