When kids have a lot of energy, it can be tough for their parents to keep up with the tots let alone get enough sleep.
Since even the most active children eventually tire themselves out, it's usually not a long term issue for families.
But, what if your wee one literally never slept? Imagine the exhaustion and paranoid it induces.
Due to chiari malformation, three-year-old, Rhett Lamb is awake for nearly all of the hours of the day. And, as a result he is incredibly irritable. To see what happened, read more.
According to an ABC article, the condition is extremely rare. It said:
"The brain literally is squeezed into the spinal column. What happens is you get compression, squeezing, strangulating of the brain stem, which has all the vital functions that control sleep, speech, our cranial nerves, our circulatory system, even our breathing system," Savard said.
Doctors recently performed surgery to relieve the pressure on the child's brain stem in the hope that he will be able to finally rest.

interesting. this is common in children that have autism but because of self regulation issues. wonder what other issues he has. i know the parents must be exhausted!
1I feel for this poor boy and his family.
2It sounds like a scary condition, but they must be relieved to have a diagnosis.
I wish them well with recovery.
Check into an all natural/organic diet and see a chiropractor before allowing surgery on your child. You may just change your mind.
3I don't think an organic diet will help his brain from being squeezed into his spinal column. I'm sure this family tried everything possible and I hope the surgery works and the poor guy can get some shut up. Imagine that first night of sleep! How wonderful it would be
4I've actually had a chiari malformation since I was born but didn't find out about it until I was 18 when the numbness and pain started. The pain can be very severe and it must be awful for a child to endure without knowing why it's happening. The decompression surgery really helped me alot and I'm sure it will help this little guy!
