Yesterday was not only the festive tequila filled Cinco de Mayo. It was also International Midwives Day. Coincidentally, Ricki Lake's movie, The Business of Being Born was released on DVD.

I loved this documentary. I thought it was really well done, and it definitely changed my view on giving birth. After having two babies in a hospital, my next one will take place at home.
1Home births fascinate me, but after watching a TLC A Baby Story in which a home birth was featured, I don't think I could do it. The mother started hemorging after the birth and they had to rush her to a hospital (she and the baby ended up fine). While I understand that this is rare, it scared the bajesus out of me. Plus the birth of my daughter was no walk in the park. I'm not sure how I, and most importantly she would have managed had I not been in a hospital.
2I'm done having babies, but I still really want to see this. Everyone should understand a little more about their options, because we do have options.
3I'm all for natural chilbirth, I did it with both my deliveries, but I don't know if a home birth is for me. I like the comfort of being in a hospital knowing that help is right there if I need it.
