As a blogging mother, I can hardly knock the internet. But, I do worry about how my child will use the information super highway in the future as predators and creepy people lurk on it.
Patricia Heaton was on The View yesterday chatting about the pros and cons of the world wide web. To see what she said, read more.
The actress said:
The internet is such a blessing in some ways like your kid comes up to you and says, 'My book report on 17th century Mandarin Chinese ceremonial thing is due tomorrow.' And you say, 'No problem (while she pretend types.)' But also then, there's stuff that they look at and it's really kind of awful.
How do you feel about your child surfing the net?

I think it is fabulous that kids have information at the tip of their fingers. I just think that as with anything - kids need to be monitored and taught what is right and wrong.
1not allowed at our house. i will log them into a web site that they request (webkins, starfall, pbskids, firstinmath) and that is it. someone is in the same room with them at all times and they don't have unlimited access, it's 30 minutes at a time.
2my kids are still too young, but when the time comes I am terrified of my kids using the computer.
3Well, being the internetaholic I am, I think I'd let my kids use the internet, supervised, and with reasonable parental controls that keep them away from truly harmful things. Like JennyJen said, they need to be taught right and wrong.
4I'm with lickety. I'll log her on to an approved site (by me) but she isn't allowed to leave the site. If she has research to do she'll sit in the family room with the laptop while I watch over her shoulder.
