Mamas should make sure to do their research when it comes to placing their lil darlings in daycare facilities.
A recent comparison of 75,000 licensed California centers with the state's address database of sex offenders had more than a few matches. To see what happened, read more.
A CNN article reported:
California Department of Social Services Director John Wagner said the audit found that the addresses of 49 sex offenders matched those of 46 child care facilities. The department was able to confirm nine of the cases during inspections of all 46 facilities that were completed Monday, Wagner said.
Investigators are currently interviewing the children in the facilities. The locations were in Los Angeles, the Central Valley, San Francisco Bay area, San Diego, San Bernardino and Sacramento.

My sister started work at a daycare facility teaching 3 year olds. She has yet to have her fingerprints taken and her background check completed. When she asked her bosses when this would occur they told her that the paper work should be ready to complete in about 3 weeks and then they will fingerprint her and run the background check. This bothered me because I think about the type of people who want to harm children having access to them for 3 weeks at a daycare facility and no one would know because a background check wasn't completed before they were hired. I would worry about putting my child into a daycare facility after hearing how lax this location is on fingerprinting and ensuring the safety of their children. This is a national chain of daycares and I wonder if it is like this everywhere. Scary.

3I'm going to play devils advocate here and ask what exactly were the offenses. If it is for a past offense about a 18-year-old sleeping with a 15-year-old or even sex in a public place I say what's the big deal. Hardcore sex offenders (rapists and child molesters) are usually monitored or have ankle bracelets if it were against a child that young. Most of those offenders can't even find a place to live much less a job. People love to push the panic button even when their is nothing really to panic about. Now if these are hardcore sex offenders then these centers need to get their act together.

5I doubt that all or most of the 49 sex offenders mentioned above were 18 yr olds sleeping with 15 yr olds. But yea, they should state on what level they are.
6also, if the incident occured before the person was 18 they can still get a job working with children because their recods can be sealed when they turn 18. my oldest daughter is severely disabled and one of the men at her school was bragging (durr) to another employee about how he beat the system. shortly after he was let go, but these people are stupid, they know the most vunerable victims can't talk to report the abuse. that means non verbal children.

8But who are these people. I wouldn't mind PeeWee Herman teaching at my daycare and he was arrested for masturbating in public (an adult movie theater).
9This is just terrible. And even more scary.
10Sex offenders that aren't on probation aren't monitored and don't have ankle bracelets. Those guys are sent to prison, and sometimes then lifetime probation, but if they are done with prison and not on probation, they're just out. No one is watching, other than the guy who registers them..... and the community depending on the level of the sex offense and the community notice mandated...
