In the last few days, the news has been buzzing about a transgender (woman–turned–man except for the sexual organs) fellow who claims to be 20 weeks pregnant with a baby girl.
But, Thomas Beatie's neighbors and others aren't convinced he's telling the truth. One neighbor said:
Quite frankly, I think it's a hoax. I saw him a few days ago, and he didn't look like that.

Since Thomas kept his female reproductive parts, he was able to conceive. Having taken testosterone injections for years, the former female looks like an expectant man. Obstetrician Lisa Masterston from Cedar Sinai told Good Morning America that there is one other transgender pregnancy on record and that it's entirely possible if all the parts are still in place. She also said the dad-to-be should stop his hormone injections for the sake of the baby's reproductive organs.
Do you think this could be a hoax?

I think its real. Congratulations to Him and his wife. I wish them a healthy happy pregnancy and baby.
1Not saying I think it can't be real - just that I don't think it should be. There's a reason nature is the way it is!
2who knows..anything is possible..and on the deal about nature..well how many are walking around with boobs and lips and noses, etc that nature didnt give them..
whatever..
3I'd say it was a hoax, but this guy: http://www.malepregnancy.com/ already did it. It's pretty bizarre though.
4I thought female-to-male transgendered people had to take loads of testosterone to grow facial hair etc...how can a person on mega male hormones conceive? I'm just curious about the science.
Also, if you are transgendered to male, why would you carry a baby? can his partner not carry a baby?
5Vinnie- if I remember, his partner had endometriosis and couldn't carry a baby.
I don't know if it's a hoax or not. If not, I hope they have a healthy pregnancy and baby.
6This is probably one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard of or seen in a long time. I've seen beer bellies that look like that. I think it's a hoax, and I think that they should leave it up to women to bear a child. It's only natural.
7Design, technically he is a woman so it is natural. I guess he never had the reconstructive surgery and his wife supposedly had a hysterectomy so she can't carry a baby. I say as long as you're not hurting anyone do what you wanna do. What I want to know is did they go to the media or did the media come to them?
8I had a good friend who i worked with that was transgender female to male, and one of the things she struggled with was whether or not to take the hormone treatments because it totally messes with your body. I find it odd that it would work for this individual because it sounds like he's been on hormone therapy for a long time, so i feel like that would have adverse physical side effects, which would mean no ovulation and no period. YOu would literally have to reverse the hormones to become pregnant again. My friend basically explained it that your uterus "shrivels up" (not literally) because it no longer has the amount of estrogen needed...
9The asian guy who was said to have been pregnant is actaully a hoax, an urban legend i guess you can now say...
I just watched Junior last night! This reminds me of that
10He certainly doesn't look like a woman. And even if he's "technically" a woman, it's still unnatural. Why mess with something that wasn't intended on being changed so drastically? They can always adopt. IDK, I guess I feel very strongly about this and I'll stop commenting now because we're all free to voice our opinions without someone like me disagreeing.
11My whole thing is if you were so dead set on being a man then be a man. Men don't carry fetuses. Why did he all of a sudden change his mind? Maybe he is doing it for his wife but where did they get the sperm from and whose eggs are they using? His wife doesn't have any and I don't think he does either. It's times like these I wish people would consider adoption there are so many children that need homes, but like I say to each his own.
12Yep, its real. He and his wife live south of us in Bend, Or. A little weird, but makes them happy. Congrats to the happy couple.
13I agree with Goody up there. There are plenty of people walking around with body parts that aren't original.
As for this story, I think it's possible if they still have the female body parts to conceive and to give birth. They may look like a man on the outside but they're still physically what they were born to be initially, which is being a woman. So sure it's possible if they are still physically female.
14I have a few female to male transgendered friends, some of the bravest and smartest people I know. Its not an easy thing to go through. Its about time mainstream culture is confronted by this reality, and I've actually been pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming acceptance I've been witnessing. Sex is genetic, but gender identity can be much more fluid. Much of what we understand to be inherent gender is socially constructed. None of this should be threatening in any way. We are supposed to be evolving intelligent beings, and this topic is another challenge in that process. Hooray to everyone who can get their heads around it and accept it. And hooray to everyone engaging in intelligent conversation about gender.
15i think its junk, a man has a penis. woman has a vagina. isnt that what we always tell our kids isnt that what we were taught in school when we were little. i think this is just a way for them to try and get attention. they should have stayed in hawaii
16i agree with 11 they should have adopted its not like the kid is their biological anyways. besides MEN CANT HAVE CHILDREN.
17I'm not sure what the big deal is. He is transgendered, which means he has the body parts of a woman, so he can physically have a child. I don't understand why people are treating this as if a male body was having a baby. Taking hormones doesn't change a vagina into a penis. So, in the end a woman is having a baby not a scientific mystery. I don't think this should even be in the news.
18So basically its still a woman.
I wonder if its safe for a woman who's receiving testosterone hormones to have a baby? Hm.
