While some moms give their daughters monikers after their own, it's not nearly as common as it is for fathers. Many traditional families name their sons after their fathers simply adding Junior, the third, etc. after the name.

), my boyfriend wants it named after him. It's a tradition in his family but it kinda sucks because I only want to have one and that means I lose the fun and joy of naming my own child. Plus his dad's a deadbeat. Ugh. Maybe I should do a DearSugar on this one.

Sort of. I wouldn't use my first name - it's mine and I'd rather pick something unique for my own child, but if we have a daughter, her middle name will be Kathleen. It's my middle name, my mother's first name, and my MIL's first name as well.
And sidenote - my husband absolutely DOES NOT want a child named after him. Too common a name I suppose...
