When decorating your nursery, one of the first things you learn is to be careful where you put the crib — keep it away from windows, especially ones with drapes and curtain strings as they pose choking and strangling hazards.
When I saw Brooke Burke's newly decorated nursery, I was surprised at her choice to adorn the tot's crib with flowing ribbons. It may look pretty, but I have a feeling those strips of fabric won't last long. And to be frank, they probably shouldn't be there in the first place. In this photo, her daughter Heaven Rain already has the ribbons wrapped around her neck.

This photoshoot was also posted on CBB and the nursery decorators added this note:
NOTE FROM NURSERY COUTURE : We would never put a child in danger, and neither would Brooke. The room is set up this way specifically for the photoshoot and is meant to show off all the elements of design.
If you look closely at the ribbons, there is a layer of tulle between the crib and the ribbons, so the child cannot touch them. When the room is in use, the ribbons tie back together on all three sides, behind the tulle.
As for Rain's crib, the mattress is set up to be symmetrical with the other crib for the photoshoot. When the crib is in use, obviously the mattress will be lowered extensively for safety, and parents can remove the bumpers, throw pillows, and blankets.
As for the crib being near the window, they are pulled out and catty-cornered for the shoot. Normally, they are both flat against the wall and much farther away from the window.
Please remember that the nursery is styled specifically for the photoshoot in the images you see here. We take pride in our nursery designs and would not put a child in harm's way.
1ALSW - thank you for you for seeing that and bringing it to our attention. I am so relieved that it's only for the photoshoot. I just hope people don't love the idea, use it and miss the disclaimer.
I'd personally have a problem showcasing anything that looks that dangerous.
2I can't believe that they think a layer of tulle is going to make it safe. Having lived in a house filled with tulle (my mom designed tutus), I know that it's not that durable of a material. One good tug by a kid will tear it.
Why couldn't they have done a ribbon canopy? It would accomplish the same thing, and would have been safe.
3I agree with you babysugar! If a new mom who doesn't know any better sees these pictures she make think how beautiful it looks and copy a lot of the hazardous design elements. I think it's a bad idea to do this.
4A ribbon canopy sounds so gorgeous wingedkiare. I might have to suggest that to my sister who is due in 4 months; or save it for myself when I have a baby!
She is just now starting to think about how she should put her room together and what colors and patterns she will be using.
5Seriously, do you all think Brooke would put her children in such obvious danger??? I am thinking its just for the photoshoot and if a mom 2 be sees these pics and wants to design a nursery the same way I think its fine. Most moms would know that all those ribbons hanging aren't exactly the safest thing. At least I would think most moms would know. It is pretty much common sense. Or am I giving mothers too much credit here?
6babysugar - no problem. A lot of people were complaining on CBB yesterday and I guess they decided to have the nursery decorator add the disclaimer.
Personally, I think that the ribbon idea is gorgeous, as long as they're kept WAY out of the reach of children. Have them running across the ceiling or something. I could barely reach them then!

11I think it's silly to design a room that isn't at all practical or safe, but I also think that the Lil Sugar blog comes across very sanctimommy like. I want to know about cool products and see celebrity babies, not see lame stories about bad sitters and stats on not putting quilts in bed with my 5 yo. Give me a break.
