different ways to different people. the one that was the most fun was this one: we found out on father's day for the first bab, and we were getting together with dh's family that afternoon for a bbq. so on his father's day card we put something like "happy father's day grandpa!" he opened the card and his face instantly went to high emotion status and he said "really?" with tears in his eyes. then i started crying and everyone was saying "what! what!" that was pretty fun.

i called my dad (who lives far away) and said something similar. everyone was so excited fun times.

Mostly the phone because my family is on another continent and spread out through 3 different countries. I told my brother, is wife and their kids in person, though. It was at lunch and I casually said, "Oh, I almost forgot something I was supposed to tell you..."

My brother said, "Yeah? What's that?" as he was putting bbq sauce on his sandwich lol

I said, "I'm pregnant"

They all screamed and it was so much fun to say it in person!!

I haven't been pregnant yet, but when I do get pregnant I plan to tell most of my family in person. And over the phone for everyone else.

lickety split, I love the Father's Day story.

We told our parents, grandparents, siblings, some other relatives and friends in person. People who were a little farther away were on the phone. Soem people who I call friends, but don't see too often - I emailed.

I was living abroad -phone was fastest way.

Last time we handmade Easter cards that said Happy Easter Grandma or Great Grandma (and so on, depending on the person) and handed them out during my husband's birthday party (which just happen to be April Fool's Day). And inside each card was slipped a copy of our first ultrasound picture. His parents and grandparents freaked out (good) and screamed, the rest of the family (the siblings) were very confused and asking "What?" because they thought something bad had happened. And even later that day (when the party had ended) some people were "Are they really pregnant?" because we did it on April Fool's. Ha Ha, very fun!

This upcoming time, we can't get together with everyone, so we're sending out pictures that I Photoshoped together that has our 16 month old, with her lovey who is holding the pregnancy stick/indicator and written is "Mr. Bear Bear and I have something to tell you... I'm going to be a big sister!". I hope they're surprised. I'm just sad not to be able to see everyone's reaction when they get their cards.

First time we made a bear that had a recording saying your going to be grandparents. funny thing was I gave it to my dad to give to my mom but he forgot and left it in the car. So I call and said did you see the bear I had. My mom was like yeah its nice?? So I had to tell her to push the button and then she was like what? This time around my dear son got back in a corner when my mom was talking about a sibling for him and he said (too funny) I am not suppose to talk about it grandma. I had told him I was pregnant and not to tell anyone yet. Needless to say my mom was like ok what is up. As for telling anyone else there is never a need my parents do that ALL too well. LOL.

We sent the grandparents to be copies of "Chicken Soup for the Grandparents' Soul" & a book of fairy tales with inscriptions that explained that the books would be useful around my tentative due date.
This time my mother knew I was pregnant before I did.

In person and over the phone to people who were not as close to where we live.

She was a big ol' surprise that I found out about a week before our wedding. I was already stressed out about the wedding, so my poor husband got a hysterical phone call. After talking with him and calming down, we were excited (still a little stunned, but excited nonetheless).

We told our parents and his by giving them each a thank you "wedding gift" for all of their help. Dad's got a blue booty and mom's got a pink one. They were all thrilled beyond belief...still are 8 and half months later.

We broke it to extended friends and family over Thanksgiving dinner. My husband requested saying grace and told everyone then.

When I was pregnant with my 2nd, I made my daughter a shirt that said "Big Sister" on the front and "March 2004" (my due date) on the back. I put it on her to tell my husband as well as my Dad, and then we posted the pictures on our family website and sent out an email to people to go check out the new pictures to tell everyone else. It took my husband and father quite some time to catch on to what the shirt said, only my step-mother picked up on it right away!

WELL -- I was at my mom's office cause my boyfriend had the flu (mom's a doctor). Apparently she told her nurse to give me my last dose of Gardasil cause she was chasing me around with a needle, but I just kept avoiding her cause I knew it might hurt the baby. Finally, the woman cornered me so I had to tell her. She SWORE it was none of her business to tell my mother. But she did. The nurse had a stroke 1 week later.

This only happened like around Valentine's day this year, but my mom's doing really really well with the news!

We called our parents and close friends. We don't live close... then I posted it on the internet for everyone else.

I made mother's day cards that read:
How do you make Mother's Day great for a fantastic mom?
(inside) Tell her she's going to be a grandma!
Then I put a picture of me holding the positive pregnancy test. They both freaked out and the dads had no idea what was going on

I live far from family so we used a trick my older sister had used (she put her oldest son in an "I'm the big brother" t-shirt and emailed us all the pic). I did it with my cat and emailed the pic out to my parents and sisters, as well as had a "baby calendar ticker" on the bottom of my email message. My sis thought I was making fun of her at first and didn't believe me.

So, I called to confirm that I was in-fact pregnant. My other sister saw the email and texted me to ask if it was for real... I texted back with a pic I took with my camera phone of my ultrasound attached.

We're mobile people. Technology is our friend.
