You know what they say about getting a spouse's name or a lover's likeness tattooed on your flesh: It can lead to a less-than-ideal ending. But tot tats are entirely different, since children are forever bound to their parents.
Whether the parent chooses a child's name or portrait to etch in their flesh, most do it as a tribute to their offspring. And for dads and moms who have lost a lil one, many do it in memoriam.
Would you get inked?

Creeeeeeeeppppyyyyyy.
1I agree these tats aren't for me...too realistic for my taste.
2Not a portrait like that. That's a little odd for me. But, I've thought about getting the symbols for our Chinese zodiac signs - my husband and I share one, so ours then the two kids' in a vertical line.
3I think if I ever do get a tat it will have something to do w/ my kids. I really like Angelina's tats of the latitude and longitude of where they were born. I really don't know what I'd get though ...
4But I would never get a portrait done! Ew.
I definitely would not get a portrait tattoo but I like the idea of having tattoos honoring my children.
5I wouldn't get a portrait done because how would you be able to pick just one time in their life to capture forever? I am planning on getting a tattoo of a turtle (my husband's father's favorite animal was a turtle and the baby will be named after him) with his name and birthday underneath it. I think it will be a cool way to always have him with me, even when he's grown and with a family of his own.
6i read a story of a dad getting a tat that says "autism" on his forehead because his son has autism. he claims it gets conversations going. never say never i guess. you get so emotional over things that effect your children. if one of my children died i think a tatoo would be a small reaction.
7I had a boss who had a tattoo of his son's face, it really was terribly creepy. I think if it was a name, or a symbol or something that represented the child it would be alright... i thnk angelina's coordinate tattoos are pretty awesome
8my friend has his daughter's first footprints tattooed on his chest over his heart.. i thought it was really cute-- and its a perfect copy of the hospital footprint record
9eww... creeepy
10I am not a tattoo person at all - so I guess that is why i am just not a fan. But for people who do get tattoos I think something so meaningful is the only way to go. I mean i know lots of people who have gotten silly tattoos that they now regret.
11I'm not a fan of tattoos in any form. But for those who are, it's nice to choose something meaningful like this (as opposed, to say, a naked woman).
12I like Tattoos but those are creepy, reminds me of the pictures that you see on Gravestones.
13Not for me, but I must confess...My best friend took her daughter's birth certificate to the tattoo parlor and now on her shoulder blade it looks like someone put her baby's feet in ink and stamped them on her back. It is really amazing to look at. The person who did it is extrememly talented and shaded the feet quite well. Now, My friend has the foot prints, with name and DOB underneath. She loves getting tats, and I have to say that one is her best one.
14I would get my son's name, but prob not an image.
15I can understand people who want to get them but I just think they are creepy and not for me.
16I saw an episode of Miami Ink where a father got the image of his infant son after the child passed away from SIDs. And I didn't find it creepy at all.
I can't imagine losing a child so if a parent feels some healing in having a lil one's portrait etched in their flesh, then I'm all for it.
17i saw the episode also and i would probably do something similar. i happen to like tattoo's and i have my son and daughter's initials on my wrists but i got it there because it is for my kids not some random picture or other symbol that in twenty years isn't going to mean anything but my kids are forever, just like a tattoo.
18I'm not a tattoo person, but to each their own - so if someone feels that this is a nice tribute to their child, then they should express themselves however they see fit. Personally I would probably have drawing or portrait done, but that's just me.
19My husband plans on getting my daughters hands copied and tatooed onto his back. at the age of 3 what her hand size is.
20the photo of a face is a little too much for me. But many tattoos are over the top IMHO
I don't think I would ever do the face. Not my thing. But I do have tattoos and plan on getting one soon in honor of my son. I'm going to get a 4 Leaf Clover and put his initials on three of the leaves and a lady bug on the 4th leaf. He's my good luck charm.
21I would get their names or their foot prints, but not their faces
22I already have a tattoo honoring my son, as it shows in my avatar. The purple daisy represents April, the month I was born. The "white" Narcisscus flower represents December, the month in which my son was born. And I don't regret it one bit.
23I can't stand tatoos anyway, I mean the pain alone, why go through that when you have the option not to? To put a kid's face on your body is just weird, if I were the kid I would be scared, and to everyone else it's just bizarre. Plus, if your body shape changes (which everyone's does at one point or another in life) then it would alter the proportions and could end up looking like a completely different kid!
24i would definetly get a tattoo of my kids portrait anyday! what is wrong with that?
