When adoptive parents welcome a child into their lives, the babe often takes on a new identity. Especially in newborn cases when the path to their future is unavoidably changed forever.
With twin adoptions, one can't help but wonder if they will ever serendipitously find each other down the line. Some twins claim to have an inexplicable bond – even said to be telepathic at times.
CNN reported that a pair of adopted British twins experienced this recently, but the ending to their story was not that of a fairy tale. To see what happened, read more.
As many twins will accede, the British twins felt an "inevitable attraction" to one another. Unfortunately for this male and female couple, their attraction to each other grew into something more than that – they married.
It wasn't until later into the marriage that the pair realized their similarities were more than coincidence. Since both sets of adoptive parents neglected to tell them they had a twin, they never knew the situation could have been a possibility. The couple has since split and decided to remain anonymous.
Many argue that this case alone is reason enough to allow children access to their biological parents' information.
What do you think? Would you feel compelled to tell your adopted child about his or her birth family?

oh my gosh yes. i researched my husband's family tree to make sure it didn't share roots with mine!! how awful for those twins.
1Does anyone else think it's weird that these two people met each other and didn't think ...
"Hey we kinda look alike, wow you have the same birthday as me, whoa you're adopted too?"
Don't you think before they were married they would have kind of discussed some of these basic topics?
2adopted children have the right to know who their birth parents were, and their familoy background.
3Yeah, this is an example of genetic sexual attraction: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_sexual_attraction.
Most kids who grow up in a house together aren't attracted to each other because of the Westermarck effect. Basically, any children who grow up together under the age of 6 or so aren't attracted to each other, which is why kids who live in kibbutz systems generally don't marry each other.
4ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! A parent who gives their child up for adoption has ever right not to disclose who they are. They have every right to be Anonymous. I love how media takes a RARE incidence and turns into a way to take the rights away from mothers who choose to give their babies up for adoption. What is next egg donors and sperm donors have to tell people their identity? It will take away from the people who will donate and give their children up for adoption.
Adoption is a personal and private decision and the mother should not be mandated to share her information. If she chooses, it is called and open adoption.
I would hope if she or the father had some genetic disorder they would disclose it, but that does not give people the right to others medical records. I have no right to my mothers, and I know who my biological mother is.
It is a sad,sad story, but don't take away the rights and privacy of many for a rare instance.
5I want to clarify something. And open adoption is when the birth mother has some sort of contact with the child, it varies. Just because the mother gives her birth name and medical history it is not an open adoption. That was my bad.
6I don't think siblings should be separated first. Second each woman leaving a child for adoption should have the right to leave or not to leave informations.
7Wasn't this story shown to be a case of urban legend reported as fact? Reputable news organizations have done this for years, it just happens. The closest any of the reports come to citng source is one guy who claimed he heard about it from a judge who was involved by proxy. That's *classic* UL fodder.
8It would not surprise me AKirstin.
9i think adopted kids should know they are adopted...
10I think it's important for each parent to make up their own decision on how to raise their children however, if my child had a twin I would find it most important that they know there is a twin.
11Akirstin,
This has actually happened more than once, although not with twins. So while incident being discussed may be an urban legend, there have been biological siblings who have married, not knowing they were blood-related. I recall a case in NY about 20 years ago where a couple found out they were most likely biological siblings. They chose not to find out through a DNA test.
Fhasionkid,
These two knew they were adopted. They just did not know that they had a biological twin.

13I was adopted and my mother had twins about 6 years later and gave them up. I am 58 now and have grandchildren. I am trying to locate the twins so that this wont happen. Adoption is great but it goes deeper than what most "emotionally" cant understand having not experienced the things that one must contend with in protecting their families for the future in certain cases. I had a very happy life and am fortunate that my adopted parents saw to it to give me as much information as they could.
