Formally Address Adults

When your children address your friends, have them use "Mr." or "Mrs." and the last name of the person. Avoid the use of first names with adults. Again, this demonstrates a respectful action. We live in such an informal world today — unfortunately, it breeds incivility.

I'm all for teaching manners but some of her reasoning makes me uncomfortable. To me, having manners is about human relationships, not about building young leaders. Chivalry is fine, but girls need to learn to be equally gracious and supportive to males - the lessons work both ways.

I agree with most of these, especially family meals are really important to me. But I would never have her adress my friends so formally...they'd be sad to go from 'Auntie' to 'Ms'! In Germany there is 'Sie' and 'Du' though, like the French 'Vous' and 'Tu'. She'll know how to properly address adults she doesn't know.
