Encourage your husband to pull out the chair at the dinner table, help someone with her coat, and open the car door. Remember your children are watching you. This demonstrates respect toward others and it is especially important for young girls to see this action. They will have boundaries as to how they should be treated as they grow into young women.

I'm all for teaching manners but some of her reasoning makes me uncomfortable. To me, having manners is about human relationships, not about building young leaders. Chivalry is fine, but girls need to learn to be equally gracious and supportive to males - the lessons work both ways.

I agree with most of these, especially family meals are really important to me. But I would never have her adress my friends so formally...they'd be sad to go from 'Auntie' to 'Ms'! In Germany there is 'Sie' and 'Du' though, like the French 'Vous' and 'Tu'. She'll know how to properly address adults she doesn't know.
